National Education Association’s Read Across America Day March 2009!!!
Students at the Green Oaks Elementary school in Orangevale, CA were visited by Gordon the Scarecrow and Ron Maltase
for this wonderful event. The reading celebration takes place each year on or near March 2, the birthday of Dr. Seuss.
Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers participate by bringing together kids and books. The
National Education Association annually sponsors Read Across America. Now in its twelfth year, it focuses on motivating children
to read, in addition to helping them master basic skills. This year, Ron had a great time reading Gordon’s first
two books to several classes of students. Even though Gordon has heard his stories a few times, he still enjoys hearing
them again and visiting with the students. (photos on Gordon's Pic's page). Placer
